Jean Baptiste Barthélemy de Lesseps
Jean Baptiste Barthélemy de Lesseps (born January 27, 1766 in Cette , † April 6, 1834 in Lisbon ) was a French writer and diplomat.
Jean Baptiste Barthélemy, Baron de Lesseps, accompanied Jean-François de La Pérouse as an interpreter on his trip around the world in 1784 , but left the expedition in Kamchatka to bring the report of the trip results to France by land. He was appointed consul general in Saint Petersburg in 1812 and consul in Lisbon in 1814. He held this office until 1833. He described his journey in the book Journal historique du voyage de Lesseps , which also appeared in various versions and numerous editions in German and was also printed in Voyage de La Pérouse (Paris 1831).
The builder of the Suez Canal , Ferdinand de Lesseps , was his nephew.
