Jean Craighead George

Jean Craighead George (born July 2, 1919 in Washington, DC , † May 15, 2012 in Valhalla , New York ) was an American writer .

She became famous for her work Julie von den Wölfen , which has received several awards.

The book tells of a girl who lives in harmony with nature for a while. In the course of her adventure, she realizes how cruel humans are and decides to live like an Eskimo . She learns that her father, believed dead, is still alive and goes to see him. However, she has to realize that the person she knew died after all.

The book received the Newbery Medal in 1973 and the German Youth Book Prize in 1975 .
