Jean Élie Louis Octave Guillaume Sévère Amanieu Decazes , 3rd Duke Decazes and 3rd Duke of Glücksberg (born April 30, 1864 in Paris , † August 31, 1912 in Chantilly ) was a French sailor and nobleman .

Jean Decazes, who sailed for the Yacht Club de France , took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris , where he competed in the boat class 10 to 20 tons . With his yacht Quand-même he finished the first of three races in second place, the two subsequent races he finished in third place. In the overall standings, he was second behind Émile Billard and before Edward Hore .

Life

Decazes was the third Duke Decazes and Duke de Glücksbierg , the latter a title of nobility of Denmark . His grandfather Élie Decazes was President of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of France for a few months . His father Louis Decazes was also a politician and diplomat; he was Foreign Minister for four years. Jean Decazes was married to Isabelle Singer, the daughter of the US sewing machine entrepreneur Isaac Merritt Singer , and had three children with her, including Daisy Fellowes . After his wife's suicide in 1896, her sister Winnaretta Singer took care of the upbringing of the children.

The Antarctic island of Decazes Island is named after him.
