Edward Hore, who sailed for the Royal London Yacht Club , took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris , where he competed in two competitions on the Seine at Meulan-en-Yvelines . In the boat class 3 to 10 tons he missed the first race due to customs problems with the boat, but became Olympic champion in the second race . Together with Harry Jefferson he was a crew member of the Bona Fide under skipper Howard Taylor . With his own yacht, the Laurea , he also achieved third place in the boat class 10 to 20 tons behind Émile Billard with the Estérel and the Quand-même by Jean Decazes .

In February 1901, the Laurea sank near Marseille during a regatta after it hit a breakwater after taking off. Edward Hore's father was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy .
