Jean Thadée Emmanuel Dybowski (born April 18, 1856 in Charonne ( Paris ), † December 18, 1928 in Mandres ) was a French botanist and agronomist of Polish origin.

Life

In 1891 Dybowski undertook a research trip to the area between the Congo and Lake Chad . One of the tasks of the expedition was the search for the members of Paul Crampel's French expedition who had disappeared there a year earlier . Dybowski found that Crampel had been murdered by slave traders . Dybowski managed to locate the murderers and successfully attacked their camp.

He described the areas he traveled and made the first scientific descriptions of the location of the waters between Chad and Congo. In addition, he named the rivers he explored.
