Jean Fanis

Jean Fanis (born June 27, 1924 in Wépion ; † September 3, 2012 ) was a Belgian jazz pianist .

Live and act

Fanis, who was influenced by Bud Powell , worked with Mickey Bunner's orchestra from the mid-1940s . With Jack Sels he recorded for the album Jazz in Little Belgium (Decca). He also played with Raoul Faisant , Francy Boland , Jean Warland and Jacques Pelzer . Between 1953 and 1957 he was resident pianist at the Brussels Club Rose Noire and played with guest jazz musicians such as Lucky Thompson , Dizzy Gillespie and Clifford Brown . In the 1960s he played in the Fats Sadi quartet and was pianist in the Al Jones Trio with Roger Vanhaverbeke on bass. With the trio he accompanied soloists such as Milt Jackson and Clark Terry . He also played with Ben Webster and Stuff Smith at the Brussels Blue Note . Fanis participated in 22 recording sessions from 1946 to 1981.
