Jean Guillaume Barthélemy Thomières

Jean Guillaume Barthélemy Thomières (born August 18, 1771 in Sérignan , † July 22, 1812 in Salamanca ) was a French général de brigade of the infantry .

Life

At the age of 22, Thomières entered the army in 1793 and was soon able to distinguish himself through bravery in the Revolutionary Wars . In the first coalition war he fought against Dego (14/15 April 1796), Mondovi (20/22 April 1796), Lodi (10 May 1796), Bassano (8 September 1796) and Arcole (15/17 April 1796) November 1796).

He was promoted several times and came to the staff of Marshal Claude-Victor Perrin as an aide-de-camp . Victor . As such, he took part in the fighting at Montebello (June 9, 1800) and Marengo (June 14, 1800). When the second coalition war ended with the Peace of Amiens (March 25/27, 1802), Thomières was able to return home with his troops.

When Napoleon Bonaparte planned his campaign to Spain in 1807 , Thomières was again a staff officer. He took part in the invasion of Portugal (November 19/30, 1807) and fought at Roliça (August 17, 1808) and Vimeiro (August 21, 1808). In the latter he was wounded and was only able to return to active service at the end of the year.

He led a brigade in the battles off Coruña (January 16, 1809), Buçaco (September 27, 1810) and Fuentes de Oñoro (May 3-5, 1811). Thomières fought under Marshal Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont in the Battle of Salamanca (July 22, 1812) with the rank of Général de brigade . Thomières was killed in the Wellington counterattack .
