Jean Kickx (born January 17, 1803 in Brussels , † September 1, 1864 in Brussels) was a Belgian botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ J.Kickx f. "

Jean Kickx was the son of Jean Kickx (Senior) and Jeanne-Catherine Van Merstraeten. He studied natural sciences at the University of Leuven , where he graduated in 1830 with a doctorate in pharmacy . He first took over his father's pharmacy, then worked in various medical institutions in Brussels, before taking up a professorship for botany and mineralogy in Brussels in 1834. After only a year he accepted a call to the University of Ghent , where he stayed until his death in 1864. From the 1840s he researched the cryptogam flora of north-western Belgium and began the work Flore cryptogamique des Flandres , which was completed by his son Jean Jacques Kickx and published in 1867.
