Jean-Marie Le Roux (born April 4, 1863 in Prat , Département Côtes-d'Armor , † 1949 in Rennes ) was a French mathematician.

Le Roux was the son of farmers, studied at the University of Rennes , then Faculté des Sciences in Rennes, (and possibly in Bordeaux) and was a primary school teacher in Guingamp from 1882 , after the Agrégation (with very good grades) high school professor in Brest in 1889 and from In 1896 in Montpellier , before he became Maitre de Conferences in 1898 and Professor of Applied Mathematics in Rennes from 1902, which he remained until 1933. He received his doctorate in 1894 at the Sorbonne , with Gaston Darboux , Gabriel Koenigs and Paul Appell on the examination board (title of the dissertation: Sur les intégrales des équations linéaires aux dérivées partielles du second ordre à deux variables indépendantes).

Le Roux dealt with analysis (partial differential equations), integral equations and differential geometry. For the French edition of the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences , he edited the article probability theory by Emanuel Czuber . In 1924 he gave a plenary lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Toronto (Considérations sur une équation aux dérivées partielles de la physique mathématique).

He also appeared as critics of the theory of relativity of Albert Einstein produced and was one of the authors of the Hundred Authors against Einstein (1931). In 1923 he made a very derogatory comment in a newspaper article about Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, which he denied any scientific value.

Le Roux had been married since 1897.
