Jean Leloup

Jean Leloup (born May 14, 1961 in Sainte-Foy , Québec as Jean Leclerc ) is one of the most famous musicians in Québec. Jean Leloup's expressive personality and his unique musical style made him a star in the francophone rock'n'roll scene.

Life

Leloup grew up in Togo and Algeria , where he was influenced by traditional African rhythms. He entered the Québec music scene in the 1980s and caused a sensation with his provocative lyrics. In his 1990 song , he compares the high-tech actions of American troops in Desert Storm ( Second Gulf War ) with his own activities while having sex with his girlfriend. His album L'amour est sans pitié (1990) was also a hit outside Québec; it was successful in France , the Netherlands , Belgium and Japan .

Jean Leloup is a key figure in Québec's changing music scene. Since the " Quiet Revolution " of the 1960s , Québec developed its own identity as a Francophone country and its own self-image, which differed from the English-speaking North America as well as the other Francophone countries . Leloup enjoys hero status in Québec for his contribution to the local art scene and the development of musical culture. In 1997 Jean Leloup was awarded the Félix (a Québec-owned version of the Grammy ) as Best Songwriter / Composer.

At the end of 2003, Jean Leclerc decided not to perform under the name Jean Leloup anymore. Dropping his pseudonym fits into the image of his wild and eccentric person. The following album Mexico was released under his real name Jean Leclerc and sold over 60,000 copies.

The following album, Mille excuses Milady , was released on April 28, 2009, returning here to his pseudonym Jean Leloup . He explains this by saying that he simply forgot to have "killed" his alter ego Jean Leloup.

In 2012 Leloup played a number of festivals in Quebec, including the Juste pour rire comedy festival in Montreal .

On February 2, 2015, his first album À Paradis City will be released in 6 years, which is very successful with 85,000 copies sold and has also been praised by critics. A series of sold-out concerts in Montreal and Quebec began in October 2015.
