Jean Mouillère

Jean Mouillère (born July 31, 1941 ) is a French classical violinist and music teacher. Musically he was best known as the founder of the Quatuor Via Nova .

life and work

Jean Mouillère studied violin with Laurent Charmie and chamber music with Joseph Calvet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris . At the end of his studies he won a first prize at this conservatory. In 1962, at the invitation of Charles Münch , he traveled to concerts in the United States for a few months and then went on a world tour.

As an orchestral soloist, he mainly played under conductors such as Michel Plasson , Rudolph Alberth , Gunter Herbig , Armin Jordan and the orchestras from Paris, Dresden, Franz Liszt from Budapest and French-speaking Switzerland. As a chamber musician, he founded the Quarto Via Nova in 1968 , which, after the Quatuor Capet and the Quatuor Calvet, continues the tradition of the French string quartet.

Mouillère was professor of violin at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris . He gives master classes at various academies and at Yale University . In 1980 he opened the first concert and teaching facility for classical music in China.

Jean Mouillère has received many awards. He received the Grand Prix du Disque twice for sound recording . He was appointed Officier des Art et Lettres . He received the Prix ​​George Enescu . In his spare time, Jean Mouillère paints as a hobby.
