Jean North

Jean North (German: Johann North ) (born March 8, 1828 in Hurtigheim , † December 18, 1894 in Strasbourg ) was a banker and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

North studied law at the faculties Strasbourg and Paris and received his doctorate for Dr. jur. For five years he was a lawyer at the Imperial Court of Appeal in Paris and the Regional Court of Strasbourg and ten years as a notary in Brumath . Then he took over the main agency of Union insurance company, after the annexation he became director of the stock corporation for land and municipal credit and headed the mortgage department. In 1892 he had to resign. He was also a member of the Lower Alsace District Assembly (northern canton of Strasbourg) and a member of the Provincial Committee of Alsace-Lorraine from 1874 until his death.

From 1877 to 1881 and from 1890 to 1893 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Alsace-Lorraine 9 (Strasbourg district) and the German-friendly Autonomist Party. From 1890 to 1893 he belonged to the faction of the National Liberals .
