Jean Rollin

Jean Michel Rollin Le Gentil (born November 3, 1938 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , † December 15, 2010 in Paris ) was a French director and screenwriter . He is known for a number of surrealistic vampire films that started his career. His productions often contain an erotic component, often naked women can be seen, so that in the 1970s he was quickly reduced to the cliché of "sex vampire films". His works include the first French vampire film ( The Rape of the Vampire / Le Viol du vampire ) and the first French gore film ( Torture mill of the captured women / Les raisins de la mort).

Life

Rollin was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1938 as the son of a theater director; so he came into contact with the French boulevard and operetta theater early on. The writer and philosopher Georges Bataille was one of his family's friends . From a young age, Rollin was enthusiastic about literature, American low-budget films and French expressionism . He made hardcore films under various pseudonyms , including Michel Gentil .
