Jean Soanen

Jean Soanen (born January 6, 1647 in Rome , † December 25, 1740 in La Chaise-Dieu , Haute-Loire ) was a bishop of the Catholic Church .

After studying with the Oratorians with Pasquier Quesnel , he became Bishop of Senez , Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in 1695 . After the papal bull Unigenitus Dei filius from 1713, he became a leading figure in the Jansenist movement . Soanen was banished to the La Chaise-Dieu monastery after the Provincial Synod in Embrun in 1727 .
