Jean Lohognon Soro (born November 20, 1963 in Abidjan ) is a former Ivorian football player and today's coach.
Career
Football career
In the club
Soro started his career at Stella Club Adjamé , where the midfielder was promoted to the senior team in 1978. In his second season in 1979 he was Ivorian champions for the first time with his club. The first finals of the national cup followed in 1979 and 1980, but both times he lost with his club, Stella Club, the final opponent RC Daloa and Africa Sports National . The following year, 1981, Soro was the Stella Club Champion for the second time before UC Bassam . It was followed in 1984, his third title with the SC Adjamé, also he was next to Abdoulaye Traoré (Ben Badi) the best player of the season on his team. Soro played another five years for the Stella Club Abidjan before he decided to move to the record champions ASEC Mimosas after a total of 15 years at the club .
Under coach Laurent Pokou and the French assistant coach Philippe Garot , he was four times champion and one cup winner in four years. In late 1993, he moved from ASEC to rival Africa Sports National, where he ended his career in 1996.
International
Soro made his senior international debut for the Ivorian national soccer team in 1978 at the age of just 15 . Five years later, the senior international competed for his home country in the 1983 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Mexico . In 1984 he moved back to the senior team and took part in the WAFU Cup of Nations in 1990. Soro played in the senior national team until 1992 and ended his international career in the spring of 1992 when he was suspended after a dispute with the then national coach Martial Yeo .
As a trainer
After the end of his career, Soro became a coach and was able to celebrate successes especially in beach soccer . After five years as a national coach, he led the national beach soccer team for the first time in 2009 in a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai . In addition to his career as national coach of the beach soccer team of the Ivory Coast, he has been head coach of the Ligue 2 club Cosmos Football Club de Koumassi since 2003. He led this after five years in the Ligue 3 Zone d'Abidjan , in the 2011 season in the Ligue 2 , the second highest league on the Ivory Coast. In the spring of 2013 he was able to qualify for the second time as a beach soccer national coach for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. After three defeats against Russia, Japan and Paraguay, the team was eliminated after three defeats in the preliminary round.
