Jean Trémoulet (born April 12, 1909 , † October 13, 1944 ) was a French racing driver and member of the Resistance .

Career

Jean Trémoulet came to motorsport late. He was animated by his friend Eugène Chaboud , with whom he ran a garage in Paris and whose racing mechanic he was. In 1937 he, still relatively inexperienced, competed with Chaboud in the Le Mans 24-hour race . During the race he was involved in a mass accident.

On the ninth lap, the Frenchman René Kippeurt came off the track with his Bugatti Type 44 at 150 km / h in the passage Maison Blanche. The Bugatti slid sideways and rolled over several times. Kippeurt was thrown out of the vehicle. Several cars drove up. First the German Fritz Roth, who brushed against the wreck and slipped over an embankment onto a field. The next was Pat Farfield , who hit the wreck in his BMW 328 . Jean Trémoulet were thrown into the air with his Delahaye 135CS as he drove over wreckage. Roger Caron and George Raphaël Béthenod de Montbressieux were also involved in the accident. Kippeurt died at the scene of the accident and Pat Farfield, who was brought to the hospital, died of serious injuries that night. Trémoulet had cuts on his face and lost part of his left ear.

Just two weeks later, Trémoulet started again and, together with Chaboud on a Delahaye 135CS, came sixth at the Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France in Montlhéry .

In 1938 he celebrated his greatest success in motorsport when he, again with Chaboud as a partner, won the 24-hour race on the Sarthe. At Spa 24 Hours in the same year and the 12-hour race in Paris he fell out. He did not finish at the Le Mans race in 1939 either.
