Jeanne LaDuke

Alice Jeanne LaDuke (born June 27, 1938 ) is an American mathematician . She was also a child actress who appeared in a movie (The Green Promise).

Life

LaDuke grew up in Posey County , southwest Indiana . As a child, she played the farm girl Jessie Wexford, a sister of Natalie Wood , in the 1948 film The Green Promise . In the 1950s, she studied mathematics at DePaul University with a Masters degree. As a woman, however, she did not get a job at a school, so she returned to Oregon as a doctoral student at the University of Oregon in 1966 . She received her PhD in 1969 with a dissertation supervised by Kenneth Allen Ross : E (sub p) Space: Essentially a Product of C (sub p) Spaces. Until her retirement in 2003, she worked for the next thirty years as a faculty member in the Mathematical Sciences Department at DePaul University. An annual series of lectures on women in mathematics, science and technology is named after her there.
