Jeanne Peiffer

Jeanne Peiffer (born August 20, 1948 in Mersch ) is a Luxembourg mathematics historian .

Peiffer studied at the University of Luxembourg and is a professor there. Peiffer is a student of René Taton . She is emeritus research director of the CNRS and at the Center Alexandre Koyré of CNRS and École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS).

She deals with science journals in the 17th and 18th centuries also from a sociological perspective and with the history of the specialization of mathematics magazines, with perspective in the Renaissance in connection with geometry and optics, and the letter as a means of communication in mathematics in the 18th century.

She was co-editor (with Pierre Costabel ) of Johann I Bernoulli's correspondence (Birkhäuser 1988, 1992) and edited a French translation of Albrecht Dürer's geometry . Together with Amy Dahan-Dalmédico , she wrote a widely used French-language textbook on the history of mathematics, which was also translated into English and German.

From 1995 to 2015 she was co-editor of the Revue d´histoire des mathématiques and she is co-editor of Historia Mathematica.
