Every Osiem L is a Polish band. The L in the name of the band stands for lat (German years). The band name means one eight (years) in German .

Band history

The band was founded in 1998 in Płock . The enthusiasm for hip-hop made the two teenagers Siwy and Łukasz record their first songs. But since they came from a not-too-big city, it was pretty difficult for them to fight their way to the top of the music business. Especially because there weren't any real studios and no place to try out their material. Another big disadvantage for the band was the fact that they had no contact with anyone in the music industry, and thus no one they could ask for help or advice. You had to teach yourself everything. So they started to work with very simple means and recorded their songs on tape and then edited them on the computer. These recordings were never published.

In 2001 two more MCs joined: Paczkos and Gmura. In the same year they had their first concert in the club Pub 26. Not long after this first success, TFK took over the work on the musical production of the song Kiedyś było inaczej (“It used to be different”).

The fact that TFK is still a member of the group today is only due to a coincidence, because how can it be that a rock fan and guitar lover is active in the hip-hop industry? But certainly, because he and Paczkos developed a good friendship when they had several years of guitar training together, which proved very useful for their purposes today. In August 2002 they had their first chance to give a concert outside of Płock. They have now given concerts in Białystok , Włocławek , Toruń , Kielce and Poznań .

In February 2003, Gmura left the group, although he had a huge impact on the rest of the group. The reason for this has not been disclosed, but it is known that Gmura is working on his own material and is trying to start a solo career. The band was signed by UMC Records in 2003. And although the group had been around for five years, the first CD wasn't released until November 2003. It was called Wideoteka ("video library"). It was her first big success that made her known outside of Poland. The hit single on the CD was called Jak zapomnieć (“How can I forget it”).

After a few months, the group and the song were nominated for the Eska Music Award. Radio Eska listeners voted the group band of the year and the single hit single of the year. The CD had even achieved gold record status.

In the fall of 2004, Jedem L flew to Chicago , New Jersey and New York for six concerts . In Chicago they played in the famous Jedynka ("number one") club and at the Taste of Polonia Festival, which attracted several thousand people. On May 23, 2005 her second CD was released, called Słuchowisko ("Lecture"). This CD was no longer produced by UMC Records, instead they switched to Universal Music Polska because they saw their artistic freedom restricted and after a while they had lost their trust in UMC Records.

Jak zapomnieć

This song caused a sensation because it was the first hip-hop song to be played by radio stations such as RMF FM and Radio Zet. But immediately after the success of this song, the rumor arose that the band had covered another song. The band confessed to it, but assured that they only used short passages and then changed most of them. They also said that at the beginning of their careers they had no idea about musical rights. The matter was clarified a long time ago with the producers of the affected songs.

The lyrics differ from other hip-hop lyrics because they don't contain any insults, threats or anything else. The text of Jak zapomnieć is about someone who can not forget his past love, but would give much for creating this. He talks about how it was when they were together and how he never wants to be hurt so badly again. The melody is also different from normal or standard hip-hop, because it is very harmonious, and throughout the song you can hear the same piano melody in the background, giving you a touch of sadness and touch. The chorus is not made of rap either , but is sung. In addition to the piano, you can hear drums in the background, which, like the piano, stay in the same rhythm all the time. The song structure is very simple, it only consists of verse and chorus. The guys explain the change from hip-hop to this direction, which can almost be called pop , by saying that they wanted to have their own style that expresses their music. Except for the verses, which are rapped, the song text and the melody point to the genre of pop.
