Jee-Eun Franziska Lee (born March 19, 1988 in Seoul ) is a Korean pianist . She lives in Karlsruhe .

Life

The pianist, praised as a “lyrical jewel” in the press, is one of the top-class young musicians. She completed her music studies in HeeSung-Joo's class at Seoul National University as the best of her year. In 2011 she came to Germany as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in order to complete her master's degree in Sontraud Speidel 's class and then her solo exams in piano at the Karlsruhe University of Music . She completed both with honors and was also a scholarship holder of the Zonta Club Karlsruhe . She received further artistic impulses from Peter Lang at the Mozarteum Salzburg and from Françoise Thinat.

Awards and honors (selection)

Franziska Lee is the first winner of numerous international competitions. In 2010 she won first prizes at the "International Piano Competition of Korea", at the "Prof. Dichler Competition ”of the Vienna Music Seminar and at the“ Concorso Internazionale di Esecuzione Musicale Giovani Musicisti ”in Treviso, Italy. At the audition for "Kumho Young Artists" she qualified for a solo concert that took place in 2012 in Seoul. Further first prizes and special awards followed in 2012 at the “Concorso internazionale di musica Euterpe”, at the “Concorso internazionale di Esecuzione Pianistica Premio Euterpe” and as part of the “International Music Competition” in Padova. In 2013, Lee was the first recipient of the “Dr. Hermann Büttner Piano Competition ”at the University of Music Karlsruhe and in 2016 won first prize at the“ Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition ”in London. Her artistic personality and her musical commitment were awarded the Karlsruhe / Hohenwettersbach Music Forum in 2012 and the Baden Cultural Fund's Music Prize in 2015.

Concert activity

Franziska Lee performs throughout Germany and Europe. Several engagements also took the young artist to Minneapolis in the USA, where she was a guest at the “International e-Piano Music Festival”. In 2015 she performed as a soloist with the Polish Symphony Orchestra Toruń under the direction of Maciej Niesiolowski as part of the “Rising Stars” concert series of the Universities of Music Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Stuttgart. This was followed by debuts with the Karlsruhe Chamber Orchestra, the Dortmund Philharmonic , the Baden-Baden Philharmonic and with the German State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate, as well as engagements in radio and film productions. Their debut CD entitled "L'HEURE EXQUISE" was released in 2018 by CAPRICCIO. Recordings from this CD were presented by BBC London (Radio 3) / GB, BR-Klassik , Deutschlandfunk Kultur , France Musique / France, Kulturradio rbb , NRKradio / Norway and SWR2 . A portrait of her was also broadcast on SWR2.

As an interpreter, Franziska Lee is particularly dedicated to the piano sonatas by Franz Schubert . So far she has given concerts with the sonatas D575, D784 and D959 in Paris, Heidelberg and Vienna (Schubert's birthplace). She performed the sonatas D568, D784 and D960 in the Villa Ludwigshöhe Palace in Edenkoben, Schaffhausen / Switzerland, Mannheim, Karlsruhe and Seoul / Korea. She will give further recitals with the piano sonatas in Leinsweiler, Leuchtenburg, Karlsruhe and Solingen. From 2018 to 2019 Franziska Lee gives five concerts in Karlsruhe with all works by Franz Schubert for four hands together with the pianist Sontraud Speidel.

Jury work and promotion of young talent

In addition to her concert activities, Franziska Lee is committed to promoting young musicians. She was assistant to Prof. Sontraud Speidel at the master classes at the J&R Music Academy in Korea, is a regular jury member for “ Jugend musiziert ” at regional and national level and is a member of the jury committee of international competitions such as The International Piano Competition “Città di Treviso”. Since the winter semester 2017/18 she has been teaching at the Karlsruhe University of Music.
