Joseph Leon D'hont , called Jef D'hont , (born March 22, 1942 in Ghent ) is a former Belgian masseur of the professional cycling team Team Telekom , who in 2007 reported as an insider about systematic doping in cycling , persuaded several professional cyclists to confess and so on Gained notoriety.

Career

After his career as a cyclist, D'hont had been a professional groom (a so-called soigneur ) in cycling since 1964 . Already during his active time he took illicit aids and in 1963 confessed to taking amphetamines . Among his protégés in his more than forty years of work as a supervisor was u. a. later the sporting director at Team Telekom Walter Godefroot . From 1992 to 1996 D'hont was employed by Team Telekom under Godefroot, after his departure he was involved in the doping scandal during the Tour de France ( Festina affair ) in 1998 . For his involvement in doping with the La Française des Jeux team , for which he was working at the time, D'hont was sentenced to nine months suspended prison sentence on the basis of anonymous information in the Festina trial in December 2000 in Lille.

Doping allegations against Team Telekom

Jef D'hont accused u. a. in his published in April 2007 book Memoires van een wielerverzorger ( Memories of a Biker nurse ) the team Telekom team of organized and systematic doping with EPO in the early '90s. Athletes, including the Tour de France winners Bjarne Riis and Jan Ullrich , as well as doctors and officials of the team were knowingly involved. Because of D'hont's allegations, doping researcher Werner Franke filed a criminal complaint against the responsible Freiburg doctors of the Telekom team . In May 2007, the former Telekom professionals Bert Dietz , Udo Bölts , Christian Henn , Rolf Aldag , Erik Zabel , Brian Holm and Bjarne Riis gradually confirmed D'hont's statements in confessions. In June of the same year, D'hont incriminated Jan Ullrich again in an interview on the news program Tagesthemen , accusing him of taking growth hormones and EPO.
