Yehoshua Kenaz

Yehoshua Kenaz (born 1937 , Hebrew יהושע קנז (Qenaz), as Yehoshua Glass in Petach Tikwa , League of Nations mandate for Palestine ) is an Israeli writer and literary translator.

Life

As a young man, Glass changed his name to Kenaz (after Otniël Ben Kenaz , because of the sound similarity to Glass ). After military service, he studied philosophy and Romance studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Sorbonne in Paris . Since then he has worked as a journalist and theater critic for the Haaretz newspaper and as a literary translator from French. His first story was published in 1960, and in 1986 he had a great success with the novel Hitganvut Yehidim ('Isolated Creeps '). The novel is still highly regarded in Israel today and was filmed by Dover Koshashvili in 2010 . So far he has also written the script for four of his novels and stories . In the 60s and 70s he was one of the editors of the quarterly journal Keschet (קשת 'arch'), in the 80 years for which the monthly Mahbarot la-sifrut (מחברות לספרות 'literature books').

Kenaz received various literary awards in Israel, including the 1995 Bialik Prize . He lives in Tel Aviv .
