Jennie Bender (born January 12, 1988 ) is an American biathlete and former cross-country skier .

Private life

Jennie Bender is from Vermont and lives in Bozeman in the US state of Montana , where she also trains. She started cross-country skiing when she was around 15 years old to train her endurance during the winter. She graduated from the University of Vermont .

Career

Cross-country skiing

Jennie Bender contested her first FIS race in February 2007 in Stowe , Vermont . This was followed by many participations in races as part of the Nor-Am Cup and national championships. Their first World Cup races she contested in March 2014 in the Finnish Lahti . After not being considered by her coaches for participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics , she switched to biathlon at the end of 2017 at the age of almost 30. During her active time as a cross-country skier, she was four times American sprint champion, four times winner of the SuperTour sprint, stood on the podium nine times at national championships, took part in 18 world cup races, won the American Birkebeiner classic classification in 2011 and the 2013 sprint classification and stood on the podium more than 30 times in SuperTour races.

After Jennie Bender was not nominated for participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics as a cross-country skier and felt that she was being treated unfairly by her trainers, she switched to biathlon for the 2017/18 season . She contested her first international biathlon race at the 2018 European Biathlon Championships . She finished the individual race with ten penalty minutes in 87th place, in the sprint she only achieved 97th place with six shooting errors. In the following winter , Bender originally wanted to start again in the World Cup or IBU Cup after she had to undergo an operation due to plantar fasciitis they do not compete in winter.
