Jenny Lynn Bindon , born Jenny Lynn Bourn (born February 25, 1973 in Belleville , Illinois ) is an American-New Zealand national soccer player .

Career

Jenny and her twin sister Sarah played a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis, and cross-country running during their teens at Belleville West High School. Girls' soccer was not offered. In college, she played basketball from 1991 to 1993, tennis from 1991/92 and soccer for the Cougars team at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1992 . She dropped out of university and joined the United States Coast Guard . From 1998 she continued her studies at Lewis University in Romeoville (Illinois), where she also played soccer and basketball.

After her marriage to Grant Bindon , the former captain of the New Zealand national volleyball team, whom she met at Lewis University, she moved to New Zealand. There is a son from the marriage.

In the national team

On February 18, 2004, she made her international debut against Australia for the New Zealand women's national team. The game was lost 2-0. In 2007 she took part with the national team at the World Cup in China. The return of New Zealand on the World Cup stage was without a goal.

The following year, Bindon was a member of the national team at the Olympic football tournament in Beijing. New Zealand was eliminated with one draw and two losses after the preliminary round.

On March 7, 2011, she played her 50th international match in the 5-2 defeat against France in the Cyprus Cup , becoming the record goalkeeper in New Zealand football. In summer 2011 she played with New Zealand at the World Cup in Germany. Again the team was eliminated after the preliminary round. In summer 2012 she took part in the Olympic Games in London for the second time .
