Jens-Uwe Krause (historian)

Jens-Uwe Krause (born June 8, 1957 in Sterup ) is a German ancient historian .

After school and high school in Flensburg , Krause studied history and classical philology at the University of Kiel , where he passed the state examination in 1983 and received his doctorate in 1986 with Frank Kolb with a thesis on late antique forms of patronage in the west of the Roman Empire . He completed his habilitation in 1993 at the University of Heidelberg on widows and orphans in the Roman Empire . In 1998 he was appointed to a chair for Ancient History at the University of Munich as the successor to Christian Meier .

Krause's research focuses on Roman social history and the history of late antiquity , especially the late ancient city and early Christianity.
