Jens Kämmerling

Jens Kämmerling (born September 7, 1971 in Hanover ) is a veterinarian and director of the Cottbus Zoo .

Life

Jens Kämmerling was born on September 7, 1971 in Hanover, grew up in West Berlin and became interested in zoo gardening at an early age. After internships in animal care at the Berlin Zoological Garden and Krefeld Zoo , he studied veterinary medicine at the Free University of Berlin from 1991 to 1997 . At the veterinary clinic for obstetrics in Berlin-Mitte , he wrote his dissertation , which he completed in 2002, on the topic of influences on births in suckler cows .

He did his community service from March 1, 1998 in the Nordhorn Zoo . His responsibilities included looking after injured wild animals and maintaining the landscape with sheep and cattle. After completing his community service, he stayed at the Nordhorn Zoo as a zoo veterinarian in 1999. There he also held the position of deputy zoological director.

On July 1, 2002 , he was appointed as the successor to the long-time director of the Cottbus Zoo, Klaus-Jürgen Jacob . During his tenure, the constant modernization of this park continued. In 2003, the second construction phase of the predator outdoor enclosure was completed. It was created in 2004, the Katta Plant, the Maras -Gehege, a stable for the camels , and a new farm buildings. In 2005 the elephant enclosure was rebuilt and a large aviary was built for the storks.
