Jens Kraft

Janus or Jens Kraft (also Krafft ) (born October 1720 in Frederikshall , Norway; † March 18, 1765 in Sorø , Denmark) was a Danish philosopher.

Life

His father was Anders Kraft (captain of the Norwegian infantry) and his mother Severina Ehrensfryd Scholt. After the early death of his parents, he was orphaned at the age of five and grew up with his uncle in Thy on Jutland .

In 1739 he began his studies in Copenhagen and also attended Christian Wolff's lectures in Halle. After obtaining his master's degree in 1742, he undertook a long trip abroad. In 1746 he became professor of mathematics and philosophy at Sorø Akademi . From 1751 to 1753 he published a number of books on logic, ontology , cosmology , psychology and natural theology, in which he presented a philosophical system based on Wolff.

He was married twice

  1. with Bodil Cathrine Evertsen, a daughter of the procurator Tilleman Evertsen from Copenhagen
  2. with Sophie Magdalena Langhorn, a daughter of a first lieutenant and commandant from Rosenborg
