Jens Lüdtke (Romanist)

Jens Lüdtke (born October 8, 1941 in Stettin ; † January 4, 2019 ) was a German Romance studies and linguist .

life and work

Lüdtke attended the Hohenbaden Baden-Baden high school (Abitur 1962), did military service and studied Romance and English in Tübingen and Saarbrücken from 1964 to 1970 . From 1972 to 1983 (with interruptions) he was assistant to Eugenio Coseriu and from 1972 to 1975 lecturer at the University of Florence . In 1975 he received his doctorate in Tübingen with the dissertation Predicative Nominalizations with Suffixes in French, Catalan and Spanish (Niemeyer, Tübingen 1978). He completed his habilitation there in 1983 with the script Language and Interpretation. Syntax and semantics of reflexive structures in French (Narr, Tübingen 1984). From 1983 he was Professor of Romance Philology at the Universities of Bonn (until 1987), FU Berlin (until 1994, 1992–1993 also Dean) and Heidelberg (until his retirement in 2007). He turned down the call to Saarbrücken that he had received in 1990. From 2000 to 2002 Lüdtke was president of the Romanist umbrella organization (Balkan Romanist Association, Hispanic Association, Catalan Association, Lusitanist Association).
