The Jeongui Party ( Korean : 정의당, transliteration : Jeongui-dang , German : Justice Party ) is a South Korean party with a social democratic or left-wing orientation. The party succeeds the Tonghap-jinbo party , which was banned on December 19, 2014 and from which it emerged in 2012. The party chairman Lee Jeong-mi himself comes from the Tonghap-jinbo party.

history

At the party's second congress on July 16, 2013, the party took on its current name. Its fourth congress took place on November 22nd, 2015, when some extra-parliamentary organizations and groups in the Jeongui party were amalgamated. These included some members of the Nodong party after it failed to merge with the Jeongui party. In the general election in South Korea in 2016 , the party won two constituencies and received 4 additional seats via the list election .

Due to the refusal to merge the liberal Gungminui party with the conservative Bareun party on February 13, 2018, some former members of the Gungminui party founded the Minju-peyonghwa-party , which together with the Jeongui-party the parliamentary group for peace and justice im South Korean parliament formed. However, due to the death of Jeongui party member Roh Hoe-chan on July 23, 2018, the faction fell below the 20-member hurdle and automatically lost its faction status. As a result, the Jeongui party only has 5 members today, the seat of the deceased is vacant.

Alignment

The Jeongui Party campaigns for workers' rights and advocates economic democratic goals. Trade unions should become more important in order to protect and promote workers' rights. She also advocates the welfare state , in which the state pays more for child-rearing, education, work, housing, health and pensions. The goals are to be achieved through redistribution and financed through higher taxes for wealthier citizens. For the environment , the Jeongui party wants to focus on more sustainability by no longer using fossil fuels such as coal and oil, but promoting renewable energies . The party is also against the continued existence and construction of nuclear power plants . In social politics she speaks out against all kinds of discrimination and in favor of the expansion of political minority rights . This includes, for example, expanding the rights of migrants and helping them. The focus of social policy is also on gender equality in the world of work and women’s right to self-determination .

The Jeongui Party's main foreign policy goal is peace in Korea , although China , Japan , the United States and the Korean states themselves are arming themselves. To officially end the Korean War , the party supports the signing of the peace treaty between the two states. The party also rejects the hegemony of one side and is on the way to reunification for a balanced dialogue between North Korea and South Korea . For them, war and the collapse of the North Korean regime are not a desirable solution.
