Wüstenwelsberg is a district of the Lower Franconian community of Untermerzbach in the Haßberge district .

geography

The village lies in the north-eastern part of the district on the back of an elongated ridge of the Haßberge . The district road HAS 54 from Untermerzbach to Buch leads through the village. An approximately 7000 square meter campsite is located on the south-eastern outskirts.

history

The place name probably has the meaning of the settlement on the mountain of Veleš. After a late medieval period of desertification, the epithet "deserts" was added as a distinguishing feature to Welsberg . 1232 was the first mention in the certificate of division of the Würzburg prince-bishop Hermann , in which Ebern was separated from the parish Pfarrweisach and "Welsperg" came to Ebern. In 1322/33 the Lords of Lichtenstein received the tithe in "Welsperg". 1576 "Wüstenwelsperg" belonged to the centering boars.

In 1862, the rural community of Wüstenwelsberg , which had been independent since 1818, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Ebern . In 1871 the village had 107 inhabitants and 19 residential buildings.

In 1900 the 218.66 hectare rural community had 19 residential buildings and 88 residents. The parish and denominational school for the 84 Protestants was in Untermerzbach, 4.0 kilometers away. In 1925, 81 people lived in 17 residential buildings in Wüstenwelsberg. The parish and school for the five Catholics was in Gereuth, 2.5 kilometers away . In 1950 Wüstenwelsberg had 99 residents and 15 residential buildings. In 1961 the village had 82 residents and 17 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 95 inhabitants and in 1987 86 inhabitants and 19 residential buildings with 27 apartments.

On April 1, 1971 Wüstenwelsberg was incorporated into the municipality of Untermerzbach. On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform, the district of Ebern was dissolved and Wüstenwelsberg became part of the Haßberg district.
