Obermerzbach is a district of the Lower Franconian community of Untermerzbach in the Haßberge district .

geography

The village is located in the northeastern part of the district on the southern slope of an elongated ridge of the Haßberge and is traversed by the Obermerzbacher Bach. The district road HAS 54 from Untermerzbach to Buch leads through the village.

history

The first documentary mention was 1317/22, when Siegfried von Stein received half a tithe in "superiori Mercebach". In 1356 the church of Würzburg sold goods in "Obern Merczbach" to the Langheim monastery . In 1574 "Obernmerzbach" came to the Wildberg office. In 1806 the place was named in the Greiffenclauschen list of goods in Obermerzbach.

In 1862 the rural community of Obermerzbach, which had been independent since 1818 , consisting of the two places Obermerzbach and Muckenlochsmühle, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Ebern . In 1871 the village had 110 inhabitants.

In 1900, the 294.34 hectare rural community had 21 residential buildings and 90 Protestant residents who belonged to the district of the Untermerzbach parish 1.5 kilometers away, where the denominational school was also located. In 1925, 81 people lived in 18 residential buildings in Obermerzbach. In 1950 Obermerzbach had 105 residents and 17 residential buildings. In 1961 the village had 74 residents and 17 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 83 and in 1987 80 inhabitants and 20 residential buildings with 22 apartments.

On April 1, 1971, Obermerzbach was incorporated into the community of Untermerzbach. On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform, the Ebern district was dissolved and Obermerzbach became part of the Haßberg district.

Attractions

Evangelical Church of St. Michael

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Michael was built around 1200 and changed in 1615. The spire is from the beginning of the 19th century. The choir tower church is largely of Romanesque origin and the oldest preserved sacral building in the Haßberge.

Eight architectural monuments are listed in the Bavarian list of monuments .
