Gereuth is a district of the Lower Franconian community of Untermerzbach in the Haßberge district .

geography

The church village is located in the northeastern part of the district on the Baunach on the eastern slope of an elongated ridge of the Haßberge . The district road HAS 46 from Untermerzbach to Hofheim in Lower Franconia runs through the village.

history

The first documentary mention was in 1303/13, when Theino et Karle de Lichtenstein had tithe and Heinrich Hohe had a quarter of the tithe in "Gerüt". In 1317 Theine and Hugelinus von Lichtenstein received the full tithe in "Geruthe".

From the 16th century onwards, as well as those of Lichtenstein, the lords of Schaumberg were also fiefs of the Würzburg monastery . As a result, the place was also called Schaumbergsreuth in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1705, the Würzburg prince-bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau-Vollraths acquired the rulership of the village with the manor and had a new palace ( Schloss Gereuth ) built as a state-appropriate country seat. In 1815 the Greiffenclau family sold their property to the Würzburg court banker Jakob Hirsch , who was the first German Jew to acquire the associated patrimonial jurisdiction .

In 1862, the rural community of Gereuth , which had been independent since 1818, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Ebern . In 1871 the parish village had 151 residents, 124 of whom were Catholic, and 35 residential buildings. The catholic church and denominational school were in the place.

In 1900 the 173.57 hectare community had 177 residents and 33 residential buildings. The 39 Protestant residents belonged to the district of the Untermerzbach parish 3.5 kilometers away. In 1925, 160 people, 128 of whom were Catholic, lived in Gereuth in 43 residential buildings.

In 1950 Gereuth had 283 residents and 33 residential buildings. In 1961 the parish village had 165 residents and 35 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 125 and in 1987 106 inhabitants and 37 residential buildings with 41 apartments.

On April 1, 1971, Gereuth was incorporated into the community of Untermerzbach. On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform, the district of Ebern was dissolved and Gereuth became part of the Haßberg district.
