Wigger, who started for the Entlebuch ski club, won the bronze medal with the relay at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Trondheim in 1984 . He ran his first individual World Cup race in December 1987 in Castelrotto , which he finished in 14th place in the 30 km mass start race. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , he finished 26th place over 30 km classic, 14th place over 50 km freestyle and fourth place with the relay. He finished the season in 43rd place in the overall World Cup. The following year he won 44th place over 15 km freestyle at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti . In February 1990 in Val di Fiemme he achieved 12th place over 30 km classic, his best individual placement in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 1993 he came in 48th place over 10 km classic and 37th in the subsequent pursuit. In the 1993/94 season he came six times in the points and reached the 43rd place in the overall World Cup. His best placings at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer were 13th in the pursuit and seventh in the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , he achieved 41st place over 30 km classic and 19th place over 50 km freestyle. His best results at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano were 16th place over 30 km classic and sixth place with the relay. He ran his last World Cup race in March 1998 in Oslo , which he finished classically in 25th place over 50 km. Wigger was also a multiple Swiss champion.
