Jeremiasz Anchimiuk (* 3. October 1943 in Odrynki , Podlaskie than January Anchimiuk ; † 17th April 2017 in Breslau ) was a Polish priest and archbishop of the Polish Orthodox Church .

Life

Jeremiasz Anchimiuk studied Orthodox theology in Warsaw and Sagorsk . He later deepened his knowledge at the Protestant Theological Faculty in Zurich . Since 1968 he has taught at the Theological Academy in Warsaw. In 1981 he became professor at the Chair of New Testament and from 1996 to 2001 he was rector of the Theological Academy in Warsaw. Since 1982 he has been working in an interdenominational working group to publish an ecumenical translation of the Bible in Polish .

In 1983 he entered a monastery and soon after was ordained as Archbishop of Wroclaw - Szczecin .

Between 1975 and 1991 he served on the central committee of the WCC . Because of his previous activity as Archbishop of Wroclaw and Stettin, he was entrusted by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in Poland with the management of ecumenical relations. He was a member of the international Catholic-Orthodox dialogue commission. Archbishop Jeremiasz has also been chairman of the Polska Rada Ekumeniczna (Polish Ecumenical Council) since 2002 .
