The Jermi cheese GmbH is a milk processing company in Upper Swabia Baustetten , a district of Laupheim in the district of Biberach .
history
The name Jermi goes back to the first owner Michael Jerg. (JER (g) MI (chael)). In 1889 he acquired the Fink dairy in Baustetten and produced butter and cheese in a one-man operation . Production was stopped already during the inflationary period and a pure trading activity was carried out until 1954. In that year the processing and refinement of cheese into processed cheese began . In the 1960s, the export of the goods to the United States , Eastern Europe and Japan took place . After Parmalat AG filed for bankruptcy in 2006 , Jermi took over the business in Weißenhorn . The dairy describes itself as the market leader for organic cream cheese and organic spreads.
In 2014 the company celebrated 125 years of existence.
production
12,000 tons of processed cheese and 10,000 tons of natural cheese are produced at the Baustetten site. 65% of the production goes to domestic wholesalers and discounters , 19% to export and the remaining 16% to the food processing industry.
