Jeroen de Valk

Jeroen de Valk (born June 19, 1958 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch music journalist and jazz author .

Act

De Valk has been working as a journalist since 1979. Between 1982 and 1985 he studied double bass at the Koninklijk Conservatorium The Hague . He initially worked as a jazz reporter for Het Parool , later for the Algemeen Dagblad , where his subjects were music and culture. He currently works for the Utrecht Nieuwsblad and the Amersfoortse Courant . He also wrote for the journal Jazz Nu / Jazzism and De Groene Amsterdammer.

De Valk has authored several non-fiction books on jazz. His biography of Chet Baker , published in 1989, has been translated into English, German, Japanese and Hungarian. In 1992 his biography of Ben Webster appeared , which was also published in English translation. He also wrote the lyrics for various CD booklets.

De Valk is also active as a bassist and works in the quartet of trumpeter Edu Ninck Blok (CD Traces of Chesney 2015 with John Engels ). The albums In de vroege uurtjes (2007), The Great Amersfoort Songbook (2009) and - with Jan Verwey - De vogels van Holland (2012) were created in the trio Dutch Treat under the direction of singer Nynke Geertsma .
