Jeronimo Bassano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeronimo Bassano was an Italian musician from the 15th to 16th centuries and ancestor of the Bassano family of musicians , who probably emigrated to England around 1540 and worked in the court orchestra of Henry VIII . He was the son of Baptista Bassano, called Piva ( Italian " bagpipe "), from Bassano del Grappa in the province of Vicenza , and the grandson of Andrea de Crespano. The family consisted of musicians and instrument makers. It is unclear whether they were related to the composer Giovanni Bassano . At the beginning of the 16th century Jeronimo moved to Venice and became a master of the trumpets and shawms , and he is documented as Pifferaro of the Doge from 1506 to 1512.
