Jerry Kevorkian

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jirair "Jerry" Kevorkian , also Jirayr, (born May 14, 1933 in Jerusalem ) is an American applied mathematician and aerodynamics specialist.

Jerry Kevorkian studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in 1955 and a master's degree in 1956. In 1956/57 he worked as an aerodynamicist at General Dynamics and Convair . He received his doctorate from Caltech under Julian Cole in 1961 ( The uniformly valid Asymptotic Approximations to the Solutions of Certain Nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations ) and was a Research Fellow there from 1961 to 1964. In 1964 he was assistant professor and from 1971 professor of applied mathematics, aeronautics and astronautics at the University of Washington .

Kevorkian developed perturbative methods for nonlinear partial differential equations of hydro- and aerodynamics, among other things in the context of his dissertation multi-scale method with Cole. In 1971/72 he was visiting professor at the University of Paris .

He should not be confused with the mathematician Aram Kevorkian (* 1942) who deals with numerical mathematics.
