Jerry Norman

Jerry Lee Norman (born July 16, 1936 in Watsonville , California , † July 7, 2012 in Seattle ) was an American sinologist and Manchurian .

Norman wrote his dissertation in 1969 at the University of California, Berkeley on The Kienyang Dialect of Fukien .

From 1972 until his retirement in 1998 he taught at the Department of Asian Languages ​​at the University of Washington in Seattle . Norman became known through his occupation with the Min dialects and the Altaic languages . Among other things, Norman was President of the renowned American Oriental Society .
