Jerry Yang Chih-Yuan (born November 6, 1968 in Taipei , Taiwan ) is the co-founder and former CEO of the Internet service Yahoo , in which he currently holds four percent of the shares.

Yang came to San José , California , with his mother and younger brother as a half-orphan at the age of ten . He attended Piedmont Hills High School as a student, then studied electrical engineering at Stanford University , where he received his Bachelor and Master of Science degree . There he met David Filo , with whom he created the Internet directory "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" in April 1994. A year later, around this search service, the two founded the company Yahoo, which went public in April 1996 as one of the first pure Internet companies and duringInternet booms gained in value very quickly.

When Terry Semel stepped down from his post as CEO of Yahoo on June 18, 2007, Yang took over the position he had previously held. On November 18, 2008, Yang resigned as CEO, but was still an advisor to the Supervisory Board; On January 13, 2009, Carol Bartz succeeded Yang as CEO of Yahoo . On January 17, 2012, Yang resigned from all positions at Yahoo and its Asian subsidiaries to pursue other responsibilities outside of Yahoo!

In 1997, Yang married Akiko Yamazaki, an American anthropologist of Japanese descent . Since 2006 he has also been a member of the Stanford University Board of Trustees . The billionaire lives near San Francisco and is considered a passionate golfer .
