Carol Ann Bartz (born August 29, 1948 in Winona , Minnesota) is an American manager . Between 2009 and 2011, she was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Internet company Yahoo .

Life

In 1971 Bartz graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in computer science . In the 1970s she worked for 3M as a systems analyst. From 1976 to 1983 she was employed in marketing at Sun Microsystems , where she became vice president for this area in 1984. In 1987 she became Sun Vice President for Worldwide Field Operations and Executive Officer . From 1990 to 1992, Bartz was President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of Autodesk , and Executive Chairman from 1992 to April 2006. In 2009 she was appointed CEO of Yahoo.

She was a member of the Science and Technology Advisory Board of US President George W. Bush . She received three honorary doctorates and was ranked 12th in Forbes Magazine's list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World , published annually since 2004 , in 2009 . According to Glass Lewis & Co , Bartz has been listed as the world's most overpaid CEO with an annual salary of $ 39 million.

On September 6, 2011, she was fired by Yahoo without notice.
