Jeru the Damaja (born February 14, 1972 in Brooklyn , New York ; real name Kendrick Jeru Davis ) is an American rapper .

Career

He made his debut in 1993 in I'm the Man on the Gang-Starr album Daily Operation . Later that year he released the DJ Premier- produced single Come Clean and the following year his first album, The Sun Rises in the East . In 1996, the second album, Wrath of the Math, followed, like its predecessor, produced entirely by DJ Premier . With the next album Heroz4Hire he put his hand on the controls himself. The album Divine Design , released in 2003, was produced by relatively unknown producers. Both albums therefore did not have the same effect as his two first albums, but were still convincing in terms of content. In 2007 his new album Still Rising was released .

In his texts Jeru criticizes a way of life based on material possessions ( Da Bitchez , Me or the Papes , Ya Playin 'Yaself ), turns against racism and oppression ( Jungle Music , Invasion ), to name but a few examples. He is also a Taoist and lived a vegetarian for many years.
