Jerzy Bogdan Plewa (born August 27, 1954 in Kraśnik ) is a Polish EU official and head of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission . He was appointed Director General on April 16, 2013, after having been Deputy Director General since 2006, initially responsible for international relations and since the beginning of 2012 for rural development and sustainability policy.

Plewa holds a PhD in energy engineering . He studied from 1973 to 1978 at the Faculty of Energy and Aviation Technology at the Warsaw University of Technology and received his doctorate in 1982 on mathematical modeling and computer simulation of complex systems. From 1983 to 1996 he was an adjunct professor at the Warsaw Agricultural University (SGGW), where he specialized in nutritional policy. From 1995 to 2004 he held various leading positions, most recently as Undersecretary of State in the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, then until his move to Brussels he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Polish Bank for the Food Industry (BGŻ), again at the SGGW and in an advisory role working for the Polish National Bank.

Between 1998 and 2003, Plewa was a member of the Polish negotiating delegation for Poland 's accession to the EU, personally appointed by the Prime Minister , and within which he was chief negotiator for agricultural issues . In November 2004 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in recognition of his social services .
