Jerzy Krzysztoń (born January 23, 1940 - November 11, 1997 ) was a Polish chess player who was particularly successful in correspondence chess .

Sporting successes

Krzysztoń, who carried the title of candidate for a master in local chess, took first place at the 9th Polish correspondence chess championship in 1966/67 with 14½ / 15 points ahead of Ernest Kocem and Marian Braczko .

Internationally he was also quite successful and played both at the 7th Correspondence Chess World Championships (1972–1976) and at the 12th Correspondence Chess World Championships (1984–1991) up to the finals.

At the 7th Correspondence Chess World Championships he finished fifth with 9½ / 16 points and at the 12th Correspondence Chess World Championships he finished fourth with 9/14 points.

Jerzy Krzysztoń played for Poland from 1963 until his death in 1997. As a representative of his country, he took part in the 8th, 10th and 11th ICCF Olympics.

In 1992 he became a grandmaster in correspondence chess . His best correspondence chess rating was 2603 in 1992–1994.
