Jesús Padilla Gálvez

Jesús Padilla Gálvez ( pronunciation : [ xeʼsus paʼðiʎa ʼɣalβeθ ]) (born October 28, 1959 in Almería ) is a Spanish philosopher .

Life

He is a professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo (Spain). Studied philosophy at the University of Cologne (1977–1988), where he graduated with a master's degree and a dissertation. Was visiting professor and researched at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg , University of Graz , Johannes Kepler University Linz , University of Munich , University of Cambridge and University of Oxford .

His work can be assigned to five fields of research: philosophy of language , logic , philosophy of science , changes in democratic societies and technical languages.

In the field of philosophy of language he deals with problems within the theory of meaning, self-reference and the semantic structures of the concept of truth.

In the area of ​​logic, he mainly devotes himself to modal logic and focuses his interest on the reconstruction of Leibniz's modal system. In addition, the author has analyzed the various semantic models of possible worlds. In connection with this proposal, the questions of the meaning of identity statements and the question of essential and non-essential properties have been examined.

Special attention is paid to the metalogics of Alfred Tarski , Rudolf Carnap and Kurt Gödel . In the philosophy of science he has examined problems of reference, theoretical languages, incommensurability and scientific revolutions.

In the area of ​​social change in democratic societies, Padilla Gálvez examines problems such as terrorism, globalization, party democracy in the media age as well as corruption and ochlocracy (populism). In the technical language area, he mainly dealt with the technical languages ​​of business and law, as they influence our democratic understanding.

Padilla Gálvez emerged as one of the leading experts on Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy. He translated his most important works into Spanish and wrote critical analyzes on them. He is editor of Aporia (De Gruyter Verlag. Berlin, Boston) and the magazine Dókos. Revista Filosófica - Philosophical Review .
