Jes Christophersen (born May 19, 1826 in Kälberhagen ( Mohrkirchosterholz ), † August 15, 1901 ibid) was a German politician .

Live and act

Jes Christophersen was a son of the father of the same name (* 1786) and his wife Cäcilie Elisabeth, née Lassen. Paternal ancestors lived on fishing grounds for many years. The mother came from a farming family also resident there.

Christophersen spent his childhood and youth in simple circumstances. He went to the elementary school in Mohrkirchosterholz and then to a private school of the theology candidate Hoeck. He then learned in his father's farm. Already during his childhood he became close friends with Peter Jensen from Ausacker , who moved into the Prussian state parliament in 1876 for the constituency of Flensburg. Since the parents needed the labor of their only adult son on their farm, they forbade him to volunteer in the Schleswig-Holstein Army in 1848 . After 1851 he served in the Danish army and later bought himself free in exchange for a substitute.

Christophersen worked as a sand and bill man. He later headed the community and founded the Boeler Spar- und Leihkasse . In his parish he was in charge of the assessment work . He also worked as a commissioner for the state fire fund. From the beginning of the 1870s until the end of his life he was a member of the district council and the provincial parliament.

As a politician, Christophersen did not only work regionally. In the 1860s he turned away from Schleswig-Holsteinism and turned to Prussia. As a member of the free conservative party , the citizens of the constituency of Schleswig elected him to the Prussian state parliament with a clear majority. There he was a renowned expert, particularly in the agricultural commission and the commission for the organization of rural communities. In the elections in 1890 and 1898 he ran unsuccessfully to the Reichstag elections.

Christophersen was a frequent speaker in the state parliament. His contributions were considered factual and convincing, although not excellent. On October 14, 1882, he formulated his political agenda in an election call with the "consolidation of the Reich, tax reform, nationalization of the railways, freedom of trade ..."

Christophersen announced two motions that he persistently pursued and enforced:

  • In 1886 he was able to achieve a reform of the city's finances, which, for example, increased the budget of the city of Schleswig by 150,000 marks.
  • In 1889, in the second reading, he prevented Schleswig-Holstein from being divided into two administrative districts with 169 votes to 127.

He also gave a lot of support to the construction of the railway from Kiel to Flensburg .

Jes Christophersen was married to Anna Margarethe Thomsen (* 1828) from Mohrkirchosterholz in 1854.
