Jesse J. Perez (born 1977 in Los Angeles ) is an American actor and choreographer .

Life

Perez graduated from the Juilliard School in New York and works mostly in the USA, mostly in New York . There he appeared in Penal Colony by Steven Berkoff (director: Joanne Akalaitis ) at Classic Stage Company in 2001 and in Craig Wright's Recent Tragic Events (director: Michael John Garcés ) at Playwrights Horizons in 2002 . Since 2003 he has performed regularly at the Yale Repertoire Theater in New Haven (Connecticut), where he played Trofimov in Anton Chekhov's Der Kirschgarten (director: Bill Rauch ), Gremio in Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew , the artist Rodrigo in Wedekind's Lulu ( both productions by Mark Lamos ) as well as the Florindo in Christopher Bayes' production of Goldoni's servant of two masters . In 2004 and 2005 he was again engaged in New York, in The Triple Happiness by Brooke Berman (director: Michael John Garcés) at the Second Stage Theater and in The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl! by Quiara Hudes (Director: Liesl Tommy ) at the Summer Play Festival. In 2011 he appeared in Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti at the Metropolitan Opera (director: Mary Zimmerman ). Further engagements have taken him to the Goodman Theater, the Shakespeare Theater Company, the American Repertory Theater, the Guthrie Theater, the McCarter Theater Center and the Humana Theater Festival of New Plays. Most recently he was in Fassbinder's In a Year with 13 Moons directed by Robert Woodruff .

As a choreographer, Perez has directed numerous productions from Brian Mertes , including the trilogy The Greeks at the Juilliard School and Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias at the Trinity Repertory Company . For seven years he was responsible for the movement direction of Mertes' and his wife Melissa Kievman's Chekhov productions in the Lake Lucille Project . It was there in 2011 that he first met Julian Crouch , who was working on the new production of The Seagull . In 2013, Perez was responsible for the choreography for the new Jedermann production at the Salzburg Festival , realized by Mertes and Crouch. In 2013 and 2014 he was also a member of the Jedermann -Tischgesellschaft ensemble .

In addition to his stage appearances, he can also be seen regularly in the cinema and on television - for example in the television series Law & Order , Law & Order: SVU , Person of Interest , Der Job and Third Watch - Einsatz am Limit , as well as in the films Kazaam , Playing God , Enter Nowhere, and American Splendor .
