Jesse Winchester (born October 4, 1983 in Long Sault , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League until July 2016 . However, the attacker had not played a competitive game since April 2014 due to the consequences of a concussion .

Career

Jesse Winchester began his career as a hockey player on the Colgate University team , for which he was active from 2004 to 2008 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In its final university season, the center was the captain of its team. On March 24, 2008, the right-handed shooter, who had never been drafted before, received a contract with the Ottawa Senators as a free agent , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League on March 29, 2008 in the game against the Boston Bruins .

In the following season Winchester was exclusively for Ottawa in the NHL on the ice and scored a total of 18 scorer points in 76 games, including three goals.

After spending the 2012/13 season in Finland, Winchester returned to North America in the summer of 2013 and signed a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers . In July 2014, he joined the Colorado Avalanche , but suffered a concussion in a preparatory game , due to which he did not play a game in the 2014/15 season. For the following season Winchester should return to the squad, but symptoms reappeared so that he was still unable to play. In July 2016, his two-year Colorado contract expired without completing a game for the franchise. Overall, it is considered unlikely that Winchester will return to professional ice hockey.
