Jester Beast was an Italian thrash metal band from Turin that was formed in 1983 and disbanded in 1993. From 2010 to 2013 the band was active again.

history

The band was founded in 1983 and was first heard in 1985 on the sampler Heavy Metal Made in Italy by Shirak Records . After several line-up changes, a first demo called Destroy After Use was recorded and published in 1988 . Nuclear Blast then became aware of the group and released three of their songs on the 1989 sampler Pleasure in Life . There were also performances with Cro-Mags , Coroner , Morbid Angel , Ludichrist and Victims Family . In 1991 the debut album Poetical Freakscream was released via GLC Records . After the release it went on a month-long European tour with The Accüsed . In 1993 the EP Serial Killer was released . In the same year the band continued to play gigs, including with GBH in Germany . Although the songs for a second album were already finished, it came to a breakup due to internal disputes.

In 2010 Destroy After Use was re-released as an album through FOAD Records . In the same year and the following year, the band performed together with E-Force , Wehrmacht , Cripple Bastards and The Accüsed. In 2013 the EP The Infinity Jest was released via Zapping Productions . Then the band broke up again.

style

Götz Kühnemund from Metal Hammer wrote about the demo Destroy After Use that Jester Beast often sounds like the hardcore punk band Negazione , whose guitarist Roberto “Tax” Farano had just been in the lineup. Jester Beast would go "a lot more brutal and raw to the point". classicthrash.com noted in the review of Poetical Freakscream that listening to the album makes you feel a bit disoriented. The songs have unorthodox and wild structures and can be roughly compared with Voivod . thethrashmetalguide.com described the music on the album as technically more or less rather demanding Thrash Metal. Here, too, the chaotic arrangements and the hectic sound were noted. The band balances between experimental and aggressive songs, with songs like Illogical Theocracy having a Voivod influence. DAU, on the other hand, has a Grindcore influence. The music is suitable for fans of aggressive thrash and proto death metal . The EP The Infinity Jest also makes heavy use of Voivod. The progressive opening song Lost in Space, for example, is reminiscent of the Voivod album Killing Technology , while the last song The Ultimate Pilgrimage is more reminiscent of bands like the later Depressive Age .
