Jesuit College Münster
The Jesuit College Münster was founded in 1588 in Münster in Westphalia from the legacy of the cathedral dean Gottfried von Raesfeld . It also took over the Paulinum grammar school , which was founded as a cathedral school in 797 . As early as 1592 it had 1,000 students. The college played a major role in the implementation of the so - called Counter - Reformation in the Principality of Münster , in particular through the education of the sons of the Westphalian nobility. Heinrich II. Von Droste-Hülshoff , whose sons visited the college, promoted its expansion in 1631 by selling his neighboring town house. Since the 17th century there have been several attempts to elevate the college to a Jesuit university . In 1773 it was affected by the abolition of the Jesuit order , but became materially part of today's Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität , which was founded in 1780, particularly through the work of Franz von Fürstenberg . A model of the earlier building complex can be found in the Münster City Museum .
